Is it possible to have a dehydrated skin

Dehydration is a condition when there is not enough water in the body. Sometimes if the person is severely dehydrated, it might even result to shock since the body is mostly made up of water. When a person is also dehydrated, the skin reflects it. It would no longer be supple and is usually dry. And before one can treat skin dehydration, the reason must be first determined. Some of the factors that contribute to a dry or dehydrated skin includes health condition, lifestyle, and of course, the weather.

One of the best skin hydrating techniques that could beat skin dehydration is drinking at least 64 ounces of juice or water everyday especially if you are located in a place with hot weather. Not enough water could result to dehydration. There are some health as well as skin care experts who recommend drinking as much as 8 glasses of water everyday apart from the other beverages that they drink including tea, soda, juice, or coffee. Caffeinated drinks must be limited because it might lead to further skin dehydration and more skin problems including acne.

The air conditioning system in your office or in your home may also lead to skin dehydration. The air it gives off is dry. Therefore, the natural oil from your skin will be removed. If you want to improve the appearance of your skin and prevent it from dehydrating while you have your air conditioning, you may install room humidifiers. This would help in keeping the air moist and avoid your skin from being dry. However, humidifiers can be quite expensive and not everyone can really afford it. If this is the case, you can fill pots with water and put it in several places in your house. When the level of the water becomes low, the pot needs to be refilled.

Harsh products that exfoliate the skin may also leave it dry and dehydrated. As a result, it will be reddish as well as rough. Moreover, topical creams such as retinoid as well as hydroquinone may result not only to skin dryness but also inflammation. If you see any redness or irritation, stop using the products immediately. However, if it is really necessary for you to use these products you must use it for only three to four times every week.

Treatments at the facial salons may also lead to dry skin especially chemical peel. It must be done at least once every six weeks to avoid skin dehydration.
